CNR 2014: Exhibition: Simon Raffy (FRA): Golem works
His artistic's demarche is to use science as a media for sculpting. The goal is to have a broad view of matter and show to the people that they are using more and more technologies based on physical phenomena they don't understand or even know! Science and art are both creative discipline of humanity. Could we broke all the borders and make creativity as a discipline in itself?
Simon is totally passionate by materials. He tries to find a kind of "material's language" in most of his works. He also creates costumes and performs in the street with them to see how people react and interact with him.
Golem is a very important part of his work. During sculpting, there are some exchanges between materials and the sculptor: materials reveal to him a part of their "language" and the sculptor gives them a part of him, of his emotions and his sensibility. For an anthropomorphous representation (Human like create by human) with this kind of exchanges, it's near a real golem. From his point of view, Simon is not giving a breath of life but a part of himself...
Most of the time, he is creating Golem when he explores for the first time a material or a technique. In this condition, the exchange is so intense that the golem has an important part of charge from the sculptor.
