CNR 2014: Lectures: Per Holmquist (SWE): BEAT BLOX

Per Holmquist is a young Swedish designer, who made Beat Blox as his graduation project at Beckmans College of Design in Stockholm. One of the basic concepts of Beat Blox is a desire on that everyone should be able to play music, in a simple and playful way, because not everyone dare to approach a piano and try it.

As a designer he thought much about the details, colour and shape. The colours should make the machine look more like a toy, rather than something technically advanced.

Beat Blox has been given attention internationally, both from the music world and schools. Per Holmquist thinks Beat Blox is mainly an installation, a game, an experiment, but also a pedagogical tool.
