CNR 2016: Lectures: Friedrich Kirschner (GER): Robots as subjects vs. Robots as Symbols. Tales from the trenches of using robots as puppets in theatre performances

In this Presentation, we will investigate two types of uses for robots in stage performances - as part of audience interaction and as puppeteered actor and the artistic and technical challenges attached. Using two projects as examples, we will explain the interfaces that we have developed both for audience interaction and for puppeteer interaction and discuss the benefits and challenges that working with robots can bring to puppeteering and theatre.

We'll end with a short live demo of Meebo, one of the Characters of a work in progress play developed at our school
